I thought I would start out this blog with some New Year resolutions I have for this year. I figured it would be a good way to get them down, and be able to track my progress throughout the year. Not sure if I'll accomplish everything before the end of this year, but I'll sure give it a try. I really want this year to be better than the last few. I have high hopes that things will finally start to turn around for the better, not just for me but for everyone.
First thing on my list for this year is to improve my health, by eating right and exercising. It's so easy to get into a routine of being lazy, and eating convenience foods. My current job doesn't help the situation much either since I sit in front of a computer all day taking phone calls. I also tend to not be as active in the winter time, because I struggle with the cold temps. I do enjoy cooking from time to time, but more often then not I prepare items that are quick and easy, not necessarily healthy choices. We eat way to many starchy foods, like pastas and potatoes. Again, quick and easy.
So what am I going to do about it? Well first off I'm going to find ways to be more active, even if it's in the house until it warms up outside. I really don't need to lose any weight since I'm within my target range for my height. I really just want to tone up a bit, have a little sexier of a body. I have a Wii Fit downstairs in my family room that I could start using on a more regular basis, hopefully a few times a week. I have a staircase I could go up and down at least 5 times a day, and gradually increase that amount every week or so. I would also love to get back in a routine of doing pilates. I have done them in the past, but never stuck with it long enough to really start seeing results. When the weather starts warming up I can start taking walks.
As far as eating healthy, I know it's just a matter of making healthier choices when I go grocery shopping. There are plenty of websites out there that have great recipes to try, I just need to sit down and browse through them. I have tried the low carb diet with varying amounts of success, so I may need to re visit that option as well. Another big thing I need to start doing is getting in the habit of eating more frequent small meals instead of only eating one big meal a day. I know that by eating just one meal a day, my body ends up storing it directly to fat instead of burning it. Can't say that I blame it ... lol. I think in an effort to save money on groceries by buying cheaper box meals, I've stayed away from preparing things from scratch. It's not that I don't enjoy cooking, it's just a way to save money in this trying economy. I love trying new recipes and coming up with my own concoctions, especially when they end up being a success with the kids.
I think this will all be great ways to get into shape this year, and hopefully feel better in the process. Do you have any health goals for this year? Maybe some tips to help me, and others looking to reach similar goals. If so, feel free to leave a comment.
